Gwen Bond has been teaching 1st grade at CCS since 2000. She is licensed in Elementary Education and Computer Literacy
from Indiana State University. Gwen and Matt have a little girl named Katie, who was born in the fall of 2008. Before
having Katie, Gwen worked at Sylvan Learning center for 10 years and will continue to do so during her summers. The Bond family
enjoys being involved at CCS as well as their church. They attend Ogilville Church of Christ, where Gwen is a worship
leader and Matt is a sound board technician. Gwen’s favorite Bible verses are Matthew 21:22, Proverbs 16:3, and Jeremiah 29:11.
First Grade:
First Step to the Future
One goal of first grade is for each student to gain a lifetime love of reading, especially
God’s Word. A strong phonics program is the first step in helping to fulfill that goal. Math in first grade includes such
skills as: adding and subtracting with up to three digit numbers, carrying to the hundreds place, telling time, measurement,
Roman numerals, greater than and less than, counting by 5’s, 10’s, 2’s, and 3’s, coins, number recognition, place value, calendars,
bar graphs, fractions, and an introduction to multiplication.
